Watch the Skies: Team China 11-4-2023

The following is a guest post from Logan , who played the Chinese Head of State during the 11/4/2023 running of Watch the Skies by Megagames Texas. Thank you for contribution, Logan!

“China’s goal was to be the ultimate superpower. We knew going into the day’s game that we wanted China to be recognized as the economical, scientific and militaristic leader of the world. We also knew that the only way to be recognized as the ultimate power was to locate and eradicate the Alien menace. The following is my in-character views of the events of the day.” – Logan (China Head of State)

Turn One:

Extraterrestrial activity has been more aggressive lately and it is only a matter of time before they make themselves known to the world. In the interest in global stability, China called a meeting with several world leaders to discuss a strategy for the best time and way to let the world know about the existence of Aliens. Many leaders did not show and even fewer could agree on when, only that we should at some point let the world know. After that pointless meeting, I sat down with GNN. I told the western ran media outlet that the old China was no longer. There was no need for a state-run media or censorship of any kind. We were now an open book, complete transparency. We are a trusted leader that is working to bring the nations of the world together to work on global issues. We made sure that GNN knew our commitment to climate change as well as global peace by ripping up all our nuclear launch codes on live TV.

It should go without saying that no Chinese residents ever saw any of this interview on our highly censored media and of course those were not the only copies of our nuclear codes. This interview obviously made waves globally and stocks around the world skyrocketed, sending our reputation and income through the moon.

Turn Two:

The United Kingdom is incompetent. The Prime Minister saw the GNN news report and decided to send special forces to our nuclear facilities to confirm if what we did on TV was true or not. They were caught red handed and sent back to the UK alive and well. We brutally tortured them first. The world was so furious by the UK’s actions that panic was equivalent to a formal declaration of war. Being the only adult in the room, I immediately flew to the United Kingdom to take photos with him in front of the media to quell the people’s fears.

This even further sent China’s economy to heights it has never seen before. While still in the UK, Germany did a thing. Germany decided to unilaterally panic the entire globe, wreak their own credibility, and destroy the global economy. They broadcast to the world the existence of Aliens, that they were peaceful and that they had been working with them in secret for 80 years. Good thing the people of China didn’t get to see the announcement, our economy remained unaffected.

Turn Three:

So, I invited the Aliens to China with the intention of murdering them in cold blood and taking their tech. I didn’t expect them to send their entire force to come and blow up our national Monument, the Great Wall. It was a rough time for our military. Our full forces were involved in four separate skirmishes across all parts of the country. Our good friend Russia, as well as Brazil, came to our aid along with several more countries. By the end of the of the conflict, we had damaged multiple Alien craft and sustained acceptable losses. Even though our military leader was disappointed we ended up looking like defending heroes to the world.

Turn Four:

I knew it wasn’t possible. Once we started investigating, the destroyed Great Wall was discovered to be some sort of Alien illusion. We immediately got our top scientist looking into it and our military now can instantly detect any future deception used against us. Using this technology our military rallied strongly from their recent losses and downed two Alien spacecraft, further funding the science machine. Our sights were laser focused on getting our nukes the capability of traveling to the moon and beyond.

I lambasted the Germans in the press. If they have been working with the friendly Aliens for so long, how do they explain the devastation that took place in China? While speaking with the press I was interrupted by someone we will only refer to as JC. JC burst into the interview and asked why Germany’s announcement of the existence of Aliens was censored in China and why I was lying to the press? I responded that these statements were conspiracy, and the media could speak directly with my Deputy Head of State and have full access to any and all records that would exonerate China. JC will be punished, and the western media was too lazy and stupid to follow up on these claims.

Turn Five:

We hosted the Olympics! I conned the other nations of the world to fund the majority of it. We also sold “exclusive” rights to cover the ceremony to GNN. Japan openly has an Alien base erected on their soil and when asked if they would let the media or ambassadors in to examine what is going on their response was, “we are too busy to do that right now.” Japan tried to host a global tech summit to redeem the shamble that was now their credibility and economy. No one came to the Alien infested event and Japan ended up spending the majority or their GDP on it.

Turn Six:

Team China strategizes during the chaos.

Much of the world raced to the Mariana Trench chasing what we could clearly see was a fake Alien force. The technology that let us see through Alien illusions was paying dividends. The Aliens seem to be two separate factions pitting world forces against each other for some sort of sport or amusement. While the rest of the world was chasing their tails, Russia, Brazil and China have created a tech alliance that is funneling as much money and tech into our anti-alien initiative as possible. While Brazil doesn’t have nukes, they are cooperating and helping develop a delivery system. GNN has moved out of America and to into our ally’s country, Brazil. What is America doing?

Turn Seven:

“China and Russia have been great allies and supportive of world interests while other nations ‘pitter patter’” A more beautiful sentence has never been published by the international news. The world seems to be unraveling as our allies and us race to get the interplanetary nukes ready for delivery. Japan announces its intent to leave the world and go with the Aliens. We must destroy the Alien menace before Japan goes to its doom! I overheard my Deputy Head of State talking to my Minister of Defense about the ghost of Genghis Khan. When I questioned them about it, I was told not to worry about it. I hope the Aliens have not affected them with some sort of hallucinogen.

Turn Eight:

War, war never changes. America nukes Japan. I was FURIOUS when I heard the news. I immediately flew to America with several other world leaders. POTUS’ excuse for this act against humanity was that he couldn’t let Japan leave. This is what we were racing to prevent. The Aliens needed to be nuked quickly to avoid this exact scenario. This madness could not stand. I convinced every world leaver to send all their special forces to apprehend the POTUS as well as any other major figure that was involved in this heinous act. I never thought it would be this easy to replace America as the leader of the world.

Turn Nine:

Three targets have been identified; Two on the moon and a third on Mars. The technology has been created, the delivery system is ready, Russia and China start the countdown. As the nukes fly into space towards their targets, the Aliens broadcast down a message. This has all been some sort of reality TV show for their citizens.

They have been toying with us for their own amusement. Near the end of their taunting us and talks of a season two, the broadcast goes out. The nukes landed. Multiple successful hits on the moon, however the Mars rockets will take some time to hit their mark. All the while POTUS is apprehended and brought before the United Nations. As we begin to celebrate our multiple victories over the Aliens and Western culture, the Aliens retaliate and atomize the UN. China and Russia sit back and watch the world descend into chaos. There are multiple wars going on all around the globe. However, we know that once the smoke clears China will be know as the clear economical, scientific, and militaristic leader of the world.

The game was a complete blast. Team China was happy that we had a goal going in, it lined up with our prompt and we were able to achieve it. The overwhelming majority of the players were great to play with and the Control team had an impossible job that they managed extremely well. I will say Control’s wrap up of the game was very unsatisfying, so parts of my story were how our team interpreted the ending and will not match other teams’ interpretations.
